i'm looking for a piece of software to convert ogg to mp3. preferably freeware but i dont mind paying a bit if it's going to do the job. does anyone know of anything i could use?

Nah, ogg support is lacking on the OS X side. I've had to convert them so I had to figure it out myself. SoXWrap is just pick a file and tell it what to convert it to. No crazy command line fun, just pick and click.
 
I dont normally convert them anymore because I let itunes play them when i import them to it. I downloaded a ogg file converter off of the quicktime website I think a while ago to make this work. Someone might be able to post the link.
 
Be aware that you will lose some audio quality by converting from one lossy format to another lossy format.
