Marijuana legalization poll.

There was a discussion on the legalization of Marijuana on another thread. As we all know there are studies all over the place on this topic, so though we could conduct our own poll here on PRSI

Sorry. It posts before you actually finished the poll. Hope it isn't too long (12 options). Not the best poll creator. I tried to kind of break it down for more detailed information.

I have never tried and am against. I am grateful that I learned from my family/relatives mistakes.

I think the same laws should apply as alcohol.

Same. I personally don't enjoy forcing a technically toxic substance into my liver, but have no problem with others doing it. Why do people want to stop me from enjoying my ganja?

Neither do I.

I prefer a $100 fine per ounce for possession.

$500 per ounce if the intent is to distribute.

Legal pot for medical reasons should require fingerprint cards, doctor papers, and passport photos be sent to the DEA for a background check on the doc and patient and neither may have a single charge ever for dealing illegal drugs, or medicaid/medicare fraud.

Tried it a while ago. An ex-bf wanted us to be on it while... I never really liked how it made me feel, but I'm all for legalization. It's been at least 8 years since my last toke.

Probably about 25 years since I tried it last. I personally don't see the appeal.

Alcohol too, since it's just as harmful and probably much more expensive to deal with violent and/or injured drunkards, right?

Otherwise you're going to have to explain your suggestion a little better for me.

Pot is illegal at a federal level, so it trumps state law, so pot really is illegal. New president could deploy DEA raids 24hrs after being sworn in and nothing could be done about it.

I don't support legalization either, but I don't want pot head wasters in prison with rapists, murders, gangbangers, and pedophiles either.

Should be a misdemeanor with a fine at worst.

Contrary to popular belief, newer studies do show that even casual Marijuana use is harmful.

That link does not dismiss, but just clarifies. And the Dr. did not want to give a conclusion based on one study. But the results are still that the group that used MJ showed changes and the one that did not didn't show the changes.

The info you linked just adds that more research is needed, and that other marijuana uses could have been factored in such as age when started, etc. From the article you posted.

"Certain regions of the brains of people who smoke marijuana are structurally different than people who don't."

"They were hooked up to an MRI, and Gilman and others found that the experimental group had structural differences in the nucleus accumbens and the amygdala regions of their brains"

"It took us 40 years to convince people that smoking cigarettes was bad for them and by then, people had all these negative effects. I don't want it to take 40 years to figure out the effects of marijuana,"

Thanks for the post, it is good to have all the info. And I agree with the Dr. that even though changes are seen here, more study is needed.

You may want to read that more closely, because her conclusions weren't even that broad. She mentioned that they differed yet hadn't established causation. What you say is likely, but she didn't actually conclude that. In case you're wondering, I don't personally use it.
