The Canon 350D has been around a couple of years now; are there any updates planned soon? Rumours of a new product? I've no idea as I'm not in the loop regarding cameras. I'm hoping to buy one in the next couple of months and would rather wait if there's an update planned.

Yeah, the Rebel XT is the US version of the 350D...just a different name. Annoying. Although I'm sure your version has slightly faster shutter speed...not sure. Hmmm. Right, best have a look at some prices now...I found some earlier that ranged from £550-£600 average...top end was £1100 at this one website! What?!?!

That's certainly helpful. However, this is my first SLR and I really won't have the money to buy a news lenses for a while...but it's still good to know. Ideally I'd like a Macro, long distance and a telephoto lenses. There goes my student loan!
Canon has been going through cycles of offering great rebates and then when the rebates expire, soon thereafter the replacement camera is offered. I'm not sure when the current rebates expire, but I'd guess a replacement is coming in 6-8 months. I think now is a good time to buy because the rebates are good (assuming you buy one or two lenses), and the camera really doesn't have any fatal flaws that would push me to wait.

I read from somewhere that Canon typically refreshes DSLR every 18 months. As for Digital Rebel series, the original (Digital Rebel or EOS 300D) was released on August 2003 and first revision (Digital Rebel XT or EOS 350D) on February 2005. So you can wait until August for revision or buy one now. I can only speculate as to what will change but 2.5" LCD is probably given.
