The Canon 350D has been around a couple of years now; are there any updates planned soon? Rumours of a new product? I've no idea as I'm not in the loop regarding cameras. I'm hoping to buy one in the next couple of months and would rather wait if there's an update planned.

The 300D (Digital Rebel) has been out for a few years now, the 350D (Digital Rebel XT) came out mid-last-year, and likely won't be updated for at least another year if Canon's usual schedules are followed. Unless you are meaning something else (or I'm confused, which is always a possibility. :)

Yeah, the Rebel XT is the US version of the 350D...just a different name. Annoying. Although I'm sure your version has slightly faster shutter speed...not sure. Hmmm. Right, best have a look at some prices now...I found some earlier that ranged from £550-£600 average...top end was £1100 at this one website! What?!?!

Check out those product descriptions. The 350D can be purchased as a body-only or with either of two kit lenses. The cheaper kit lens is an 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6, and the expensive kit lens is the 17-85 mm f/4-5.6.

Neither lenses are particularly good though. Ask me if you would like recommendations.

If you search my previous threads somehow you'll see lots of me recommending lenses. Usually I ramble off recommendations and why I recommend them. But in previous examples people don't seem to care.

Here are some reviews I've done. (I get a Sigma 24-70mm EX DG Macro thursday :) :))

Here are some other ones.

EDIT: Oh and the last link has very good reviews, when you're looking on the sharpness charts, remember anything under 1500 or so is pretty soft.

Ok ok, I'll bite.
Prime lenses-
Sigma 8mm
Canon 24mm 2.8
Sigma 20mm or 24mm or 28mm primes
Canon 50mm 1.8 or 1.4 (I think the 1.4 is worth the extra money, but most people don't, though I don't own one.
Canon 85mm 1.8
Canon 100mm 2.8 USM macro
Sigma 150mm 2.8 HSM macro

Wide zooms
Tokina 12-24mm 4
Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 EX DG (Much better than the kit lens)

Mid zooms
Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 EX DG
Canon 28-105mm 3.5-4.5 USM
Sigma 18-125mm 3.5-5.6 (if you need a big zoom and want a better lens than the Canon EFS 18-55mm kit lens)

Long zooms
Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 EX DG HSM
Sigma 100-300mm 4 EX DG HSM
Canon 70-200mm L USM (they are all overpriced like all canon L glass)

That's certainly helpful. However, this is my first SLR and I really won't have the money to buy a news lenses for a while...but it's still good to know. Ideally I'd like a Macro, long distance and a telephoto lenses. There goes my student loan!

Canon has been going through cycles of offering great rebates and then when the rebates expire, soon thereafter the replacement camera is offered. I'm not sure when the current rebates expire, but I'd guess a replacement is coming in 6-8 months. I think now is a good time to buy because the rebates are good (assuming you buy one or two lenses), and the camera really doesn't have any fatal flaws that would push me to wait.

I read from somewhere that Canon typically refreshes DSLR every 18 months. As for Digital Rebel series, the original (Digital Rebel or EOS 300D) was released on August 2003 and first revision (Digital Rebel XT or EOS 350D) on February 2005. So you can wait until August for revision or buy one now. I can only speculate as to what will change but 2.5" LCD is probably given.
