7th grader’s pencil twirling

Quote:
leads to suspension and psychological evaluation when called ‘gun motions’

Glen Meadow Middle School seventh grader, Ethan Chaplin, was recently suspended after, he says, he was simply twirling a pencil in math class. News 12 New Jersey reported that the Vernon Township, New Jersey teenager was twirling a pencil with a pen cap on top when another student yelled, “He’s making gun motions, send him to juvie.” But Ethan denies that interpretation of his actions and said that the student who yelled the comment had been bullying him earlier that day and was just trying to get him in trouble.

the five-hour long physical and psychological evaluation that his son endured, possibly for naught. Chaplin told the outlet, “The child was stripped, had to give blood samples (which caused him to pass out) and urine samples for of all things drug testing…Then four hours later a social worker spoke to him for five minutes and cleared him. Then an actual doctor came in and said the state was 100 percent incorrect in their procedure and this would not get him back in school.”

ZERO TOLERANCE appears to also mean zero common sense.

Oh that's bs. They should be smart enough to have the student show them what he was doing with his pencil. That happens to me all the time. At least 5 times a day I drop it for it flys across the room. I like moving it in my fingers. You simply take the pencil and twist it around over and over. And they believed he was making gun like gestures with it. Dumb ass's now a days...

The only thing more ridiculous than being suspended from school for spinning a pencil is swallowing online sensational media reports as the complete story. Especially when infowars and the huffington post is involved.

Soon we'll have brain scanners so we can expell students that think of the letters G, U, and N in any combination. Nugs?!

I feel dirty, too.

I would like to see a complete rundown of the facts after the dust clears. But, I am struggling to imagine something that would make sense of this.

Yeah people hear the word gun and flip out. Last night in my town we were all told to stay inside becuase of a "lose gunmen". A ton of state police were there helicopters were looking for this guy... And then we found out this guy never throned anyone was on his own property only and went out for target practice. One shot was fired. And this guy came out of the woods when he seen all the helicopters to find out they thought he was going to kill some one.

Anyone here read The Wasp by Eric Frank Russell? Hands down, my all time favorite Sci-Fi novel of all time.

'Murica has become the Sirian Empire.

So no repercussions for the boy who cried wolf, eh? If it were my son, I would demand my pound of flesh. Bullying the kid wasn't enough, he had to slander the boy as well. This calls for a soap in a the towel flogging; a pound of flesh.

At that point, wildebeests and open-source software will be in deep trouble.
