Convert from WMV to MOV

Does anyone know what software is available or could be available in the future to allow conversion of WMV files to MOV files under OS X? Currently I have to use a shareware program under Virtual PC to convert from wmv to mpg, which takes forever.

Once I get the files converted to mpg, I use QuickTime Pro to convert from mpg to mov, but unfortunately QuickTime Pro is currently unable to extract the sound from mpg's, so you end up with movies that have no sound.

I now have to save the audio track as an mp3 file using a bbeMUX and iTunes under OS X. When I'm finally done with all this, I have a movie file that is 100 times bigger than the original wmv, and is much lower quality. Can anybody help?

anything involving wmv is a pain in the ass. i would suggest trying ffmpeg or mencoder (both available on www.versiontracker.com). they support some wmv and mov files, so you may be able to convert it depeding on the codecs that are used.
