Hi all,
my graphic designer wife is looking for a non-reflective display, and as Mac doesn't do those any more, what's the best alternative?

Take a look at the LG 34UM95. It's a 34" 21:9 AH-IPS panel monitor, with a soft AG coating. It has a built in support for calibrators and it has an impressive 3440x1440 resolution. It also has Thunderbolt support for single cable connection to your Mac.

Thanks for that, I'll have a look.

This monitor reviews website has the Dell Ultrasharp range coming in at number 1.

It's interesting that Sony don't even have one in this top 10 list? LG comes in at number 4: but it seems to be in the smaller, cheaper monitor category. Rating for designers would be in a different ballpark hey?

I was thinking of the 27 inch Dell U2713HM which Macworld had a rave about.

However, the Dell 27 Ultrasharp may have backlit consistency issues, see image, and their testing policy (below) is a bit of a concern.

Backlight variance (bleed)
We do not validate our monitors in a dark room. We validate our monitors in rooms with a minimum of 150 lux which is standard office lighting. Dell monitors do not have 100% backlight uniformity specification. As long as the center 4" circle (7" circle for 27" and larger monitors) meets our manufacturer specifications, it is acceptable.

Color/Tint variance
Dell monitors do not have 100% color/tint uniformity specification. As long as the center 4" circle (7" circle for 27" and larger monitors) is 6500K, it meets our manufacturer specifications. The center may be 6500K, but the sides and corners may not, which is why you may see that one side or corner is different than the others. To obtain closer color temperatures, use Custom Color in the monitor OSD (On Screen Display) to adjust the RGB to match up the monitors.

Best place I know for in-depth monitor reviews is tftcentral.co.uk

Their review of the U2713HM is here. It's a very positive write-up but it does point out that the U2713HM has a narrower colour gamut than the U2711 (effectively replaced by the U2713H).

Personally I've not yet met any Dell Ultrasharp I didn't like, but my gamut / colour accuracy requirements are strictly amateur.
