Hi,

Can I safely put a SATA III SSD into a 2010 (SATA II) MacMini? Or can that cause problems on the long run?
Are there still SATA II drives available?

Thanks for your help!

SATA3 SSDs will work fine in those Minis but offer no performance advantage over SATA2 as the interface is only SATA2.

That's great - thank you!

Depending on the SSD model, it can work only in SATA I, although the Mini 2010 being SATA II-capable. Do some research about SATA III models which work in SATA II mode with the Mini 2010.

Samsung 840 EVO and Crucial M500, MX100 are known for being compatible with SATA II. PNY XLR8, on the other hand, downgrade itself to SATA I on SATA II buses.

It's still worth upgrading to an SSD even on sata 2 as SSD is still faster than any spinner was on sata 2
