Hola everyone. I just bought a new Macbook Air a couple of weeks ago. I spent the extra money to max it out- i7 processor, 8GB ram, 500GB HD... I'm a graphic designer, travel blogger and a musician so I want it to be able to handle all of my programs- Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, iMovie and Logic being the most frequently used.
Here's the thing. It usually has no problems running the design programs. (Photoshop is ran along with whatever else I'm doing- tons of browser windows, Illustrator open as well sometimes, etc.) But Logic seems to give the whole computer a brainfart at times. It did this the other day now it's doing it again:
I tried to open so I could listen to some files from a show last night and it's turned into turtle speed. I have all other programs closed (even ended them in the Force Quit Applications window) except for Facebook. I open Logic and it's just spinwheel, spinwheel, spinwheel forever and when I'm scrolling through Facebook it stops on any video (because of that autoplay feature they have) and freezes: spinwheel, spinwheel, spinwheel.
Thing is, now I've quit Logic, the ONLY application that is open on my Macbook is Chrome with Macrumors and Facebook both open and it is STILL doing it. Freezing for about 20 seconds as I scroll every time it comes to any kind of video.
Am I missing something? With that much RAM and processing power I should be able to run 50 Facebook windows if I want, right? Is this the downfall to SSD Drives?
I know Logic is a power-hungry application compared to Adobe's design programs that I use. But this seems crazy. Should I be running it off of an external drive similar to Pro Tools requirements? Or is there a better way to fix this issue?
I'm new to Mac and to Logic for that matter (VERY happily switched from Pro Tools), so I'm not being a smartass, I'm legitimately clueless. Looking for answers, not flaming. haha
