just updated to iOS 8. I noticed the camera roll is missing in photos. All my pictures are there under photos but not in camera roll under albums. Is there a fix for this. Or did I do something wrong. Thanks!!

Neither. That's just the way it is in iOS 8. Presumably Apple decided that the camera roll is obsolete since you can see all of your pictures under the Photos tab.

I only ever used camera roll, this is my only complaint for iOS8 so far. Also, can you elaborate as to why Apple may think its obsolete?

You don't need Camera Roll, there is already a list of all of your photos that has a different name.

Your photos will already be in the Photos tab organized by location and date. No need for the camera roll anymore. Although, having a long scrolling list of photos not sorted is something people strangely like, so having it disappear and replaced with Recent Photos is strange to me...

Thanks, i do like scrolling through a list of photos. I only use the location and date part of the app when i want to remember when i did something or check when i went somewhere.

In iOS 7, Camera Roll is sorted by date (based off when you took the picture). Not sure why you're saying otherwise.

This is one of the things I look forward to losing. Oddly I use it every day but it was something that bugged me... You'd see the pic in camera roll and then also in an album... It tricked your mind into thinking here were duplicates!!

Photos tab is sorted by location as well. Actually, Cameral Roll is sorted by when the picture was added. If you save a photo from the web, it'll add it to the end of the cameral roll rather than when the pic was taken.

The photos tab is strictly sorted by date. It also includes the location and maybe even groups pictures by location, but it doesn't sort by location at all.

Same thing with pictures saved from the web. If a picture doesn't have any exif date information then it is given the date and time that you saved it.

It's grouped by location and sorted by date then. Better ? :) I thought sorted included grouping but I suppose not.

OK, so the Camera Roll is gone.

How would one access photos that are not in an album to add to Instagram for example? Instagram only shows albums.

But recently taken only shows the last 250ish photos. My camera roll had 2600+. If the photo I want to share isn't recent there's no way to see it.

No camera roll iOS 8

How are you trying to share it? If you're in the photos app, just go into the photos tab. If you're in another app, then choose 'all photos' instead of 'recently added'

Love everyone trying to justify the loss of something that's been around forever. You can't tell me that even providing an OPTION to keep the view as it were in the older camera roll format wasn't possible. Here's why it sucks.

If I want to reference a photo to simply show someone I now have to know when it was taken? Not only that but the dates on the photo (assume it's pulling from EXIF data) is incorrect on roughly half of my photos putting them in a place they don't belong. This, along with battery life are my only complaints so far of iOS 8.

The camera roll stored everything in date order as well. You shouldn't really see a difference in the location of the photo between the camera roll and the photos tab.

As far as your pictures appearing in the wrong location, how were those pictures put on the phone? If they were taken by the phone then they definitely shouldn't be in the wrong place. If they were imported then it's possible that they have bad exif data.

I realize that but now my pictures are in a different order. In camera roll, I knew precisely where a picture(s) was based on the big grid of thumbnails. It may work for some but for others it's not going to received well (which iscwhy I think it should be an optional view).

Love everyone trying to justify the loss of something that's been around forever.

Apple users get pounded over the head repeatedly by the company's ridiculous changes, but realize they can't do anything so they try to justify the decision, not just to us, but to themselves.

I know because I've done that in the past. However, the Photos app changes are SO ridiculous and out of left field that I can't find any way to justify it. The devs at Apple are smoking something, and whatever it is, it must be good stuff because they're not thinking clearly at all.

They really should toke up on the weekends and drop the bong when at work.

Yeah, I'm being silly. But this is truly aggravating and I hope Apple fixes it, for the sake of our sanity.

I'd really love to hear your reasoning as to why, because I can't see the benefits of the new changes.

Maybe if you enlighten me, I'll feel better about all this!

At most, I have about 1 photos on my phone at any time. I rarely take pictures. So the new interface was easy to get used to!

At most? And at least, you have 0 pictures? That's funny. Congrats, you are in the 1% club. I have over 1000 pictures so you can probably see why this is important.

I don't see any benefits to the photos app and I have 3000 photos right now. Running iOS 8 on my iPhone and iPad and the whole cloud sync doesn't even work for editing or cropping. Is this something they have to flip a switch on next week?????????

You dont see any benefit to the "new" photos app or the app at all? If you are running iOS 8 GM there is no switch....it's the final release.
