Hi everyone,

I've tried reading around the forums with regard to using external hard drives to backup my laptop and store media files on, but frankly it's all kind of jumbled together in my head now.

I'm in the process of buying a macbook pro retina, and at the same time want to set up external drives to store and backup files.

In my brain, this is what I envison:

1. On my macbook (256gb ssd): Working files (schoolwork, etc.), and installed programs.

2. External HDD #1: Media (Music and Movies)

3. External HDD #2: Backups of everything on the Macbook (I understand Time Machine should be straight forward here) and backups of the Media off External Drive #1.

Hoping someone can help me out with the most efficient (read, easy to use) way to set this up and maintain it. What do I need exactly? Any specific hardware recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your help in helping learn and navigate this process!
