17'' iMac G5 Out of Stock

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif

Initially reported yesterday, the 17" G5 iMac had started disappearing from international Apple Stores. Today, the U.S. Apple Store also reflects no further availability of the 17" G5 iMac.

Apple had previously discounted the 20" iMac G5 to move the final inventory. Initially, Apple had been selling both the Intel iMacs and older G5 iMacs side-by-side. Now the transition appears to be completing.

With stock of PowerBook G4's also dwindling, Apple had stated that PowerBook G4's would be sold while supplies last. The 15" MacBook Pro is expected to ship later in February, but unless Apple releases other form factors soon, there could be a hole in their laptop lineup in the 12" and 17" configurations.

Will there be a 12" MBP? That's the million dollar question for me.

Not likely. Most likely is a 13.3" widescreen MacBook Pro based around the rumoured 13.3" iBook replacement I assume they'll call "MacBook."

Kinda off topic, eh? Why wouldn't there be? (or at least a 13" widescreen)

It's not a question of if, it's when. If you want the 17 and can wait a bit, wait.

Sounds like one of the intel boxes would be perfect for them. Why so insistent on getting them to buy the hardware that's on its way out?

I am only concerned about bugs that sometimes appear in new products. This is a little bit bigger that just a minor rework of the imac line, it's a whole new chip! It can take months for serious flaws to become evident. I guess I am more comfortable with the known. But I guess I may have to advise to change to intel imac and hope for the best.

G5 iMac it was fun while it lasted........

Dammit I was going to try to get a cheaper G5 iMac, well this looks likes the best time and excuse to blow it all on a brand spanking new Intel iMac or MacBook Pro

Um, the page still says "Ships: Within 24 hours" to me. Where does Apple indicate that they are out of stock?

Look at the "iMac G5," not the "iMac." The 17" model is definitely gone. The 20" still ships within 24 hours though for the time being.
