This surprised me when I saw it.

First pic is my iPhone 6 plugged into my Mac, as viewed under the USB section in System Information. Note the "extra operating current" of 1600mA.

The second pic is my iPhone 5, viewed in the same way. Notice, only 500mA "extra operating current".

I haven't noticed a difference in charging speed, but this is peculiar indeed! I'll have to time charging on a 1 amp (iPhone) vs 2 amp (iPad) charger and see if there's a difference. Hmm!

Yep, my iPhone 6 definitely charges faster from the 2.1 amp connection on my battery pack that's usually meant for iPads or similar.
