iPod shuffle Now Starting at Just $69

CUPERTINO, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Apple(R) today

The new 1GB iPod nano's ultra-portable design is thinner than a #2 pencil and
features Apple's patent pending Click Wheel and the same gorgeous color screen
as the other iPod nano models. In addition, Apple announced that the iPod
shuffle is now more affordable than ever with the 512MB and 1GB models priced
at $69 and $99 respectively.
"Now everyone can afford an iPod nano, with our new 1GB model starting at

album art while playing music, view photo slideshows or play games in full
color. iPod nano also features the same 30-pin dock connector as the iPod and
works effortlessly with a wide range of over 2,000 accessories developed for
iPod.
Featuring seamless integration with the iTunes(R) Music Store and the
iTunes digital music jukebox, iPod nano includes Apple's patent pending
Auto-Sync technology that automatically downloads a user's digital music
collection, photos or Podcasts onto iPod nano and keeps it up-to-date whenever
iPod nano is plugged into a Mac(R) or Windows computer using USB 2.0.
Pricing & Availability
The 1GB white and black models of iPod nano for Mac or Windows are
available worldwide immediately for a suggested retail price of $149 (US),
through the Apple Store(R) (http://www.apple.com), Apple's retail stores and Apple
Authorized Resellers. All iPod nano models include earbud headphones, a USB
2.0 cable, case and a CD with iTunes for Mac and Windows computers.
iPod nano requires a Mac with a USB 2.0 port and Mac OS(R) X version
10.3.4 (or later) and iTunes 4.9 (or later); or a Windows PC with a USB 2.0
port and Windows 2000 (SP4), XP Home or Professional (SP2) and iTunes 4.9 (or
later).
Music capacity is based on four minutes per song and 128-Kbps AAC
encoding; photo capacity is based on iPod-viewable photos transferred from
iTunes.

The UK store is up and there is a 1GB Nano. Would anyone really buy a 1GB Nano?

...probably not when you buy a 2GB nano for only £20 more

I hope they just don't kill off the iPod Shuffle, although it has got some bad press I think it's still a great product to support an already killer iPod ranged.

But a 1 GB Nano..... that might be cool as well, but then what's the point

A 6 or 8GB Nano would have been far more welcome than a 1GB. Hardly seems there is much point having a screen and photo viewing support for a measley 1GB.

I still think the shuffle works in the lineup - it's a completely different kind of player.

Yeah I think the Shuffle has a place too. However, why are they lowering the memory rather than upping it? Why not make a 1GB and 2GB Shuffle and 2, 4 and 6GB Nanos.

What's next... the 5GB Video iPod?

I agree. I would like to see the Shuffle survive...but that is cool that they came out with 1GB Nano's....

So....

512MB Shuffle -- $69
1GB Shuffle -- $99
1GB nano -- $149
2GB nano -- $199
4GB nano -- $249
30GB iPod video -- $299
60GB iPod video -- $399

But why get a 2GB nano when you can get a 4GB nano for X more? And why get a 4GB nano when you can get a 30GB iPod video for X more, and a better cost/MB ratio?

I think we've had this discussion before....

the shuffle's memory is the same, its price is what is lower, and we all can't complain about that.

$69!!

At $69 for the entry-level model, it's an entry level drug. Get some people used to carrying and listening to thier music all the time.

Now, the $169 1G Nano...it's like iPod crack. Give them a taste. Show them the beautiful screen. Have them fill up their small 1G only to want more, and more space.

BTW...just in time for the Valentine's Day buying rush.

You gotta love this

This does a couple of things - make an "iPod with a screen" even more affordable at $149, and makes the nano super-affordable. No one else can even touch the low end of the iPod lineup at this moment. Nice job Apple.
