It's been yonks since I last thought about this....

did anyone ever come up with a piece of freeware that can do screengrabs of dvds...?

Last time I discussed this, there wasn't a way to do it. Whatever software I used, the screen area always showed up on the grab as blacked-out....

So, has technology come along leaps & bounds since?

Try a program called 'ScreenCaptureGUI" it's freeware and you can find it on versiontracker.com

I believe that if you use VLC to play the DVD, you can take a screen shot using the normal Grab app.

Also, you can use the 'screencapture' command in the terminal to get a screenshot using DVDPlayer. Type 'man screencapture' for a list of all the options.

I've not used it, but I would guess that the app phampton81 mentions above is simply a graphical front end to this terminal command.
