why do cloud songs I haven't downloaded play on my phone?

why do cloud songs I haven't downloaded play on my phone? and how do I stop it from happening????

I have songs hubby doesn't want/like on his phone and vice versa. also I have holiday songs I don't want on my phone or to play other than during the holidays.

we turning off cellular for music but that didn't even work. and the little cloud shows up but are NOT downloaded..

help, please.

Settings > iTunes and App Store > Show All Music : Turn Off.

If you don't do this then all your purchases will show in your music app even if you haven't downloaded them yet and if you happen to click on one it will play via cellular data. Once you turn that setting off then the only thing showing in your music app will be what you have actually downloaded to your device.
