I'll try to explain this as best I can.
I just got my macbook pro back from my local repair shop for the second time. They are reputedly the best in Dublin for mac repair and they were my only alternative as there is no mac store here and my mac is not under guarantee. The first time I went to them they did not check everything properly due to not listening to exactly what I was saying, but anyway. This second time they opened it up and did a complete wipe and re-install of hdd and assured me that they have done a 10 hour test on everything and the machine is running totally fine now.
My initial problems were that it became very slow operating basic functions, heated up dramatically and that the fans were incredibly noisy, (so much so that I could barely hear music at a moderate level in headphones above their noise). The repair crew said they opened it up and found some build up between the heatsink and somewhere else which they believe was causing the unit to overheat and perform poorly... explaining the loud fans.
They also did a full wipe of my hard drive and a fresh install so when I got it back it just had a basic few programs on it and none of my old stuff. It seemed to function a bit better when I tried to open some of the basic programmes on there but I thought that I could not tell if it was fully ok until i reloaded my old set up from time machine. But before I reloaded my old setup from time machine I just did a basic test of seeing how long it took to switch off and turn on. Switching off took around 10secs and booting up was less than 30. Both were much quicker times than before and I was feeling confident that they had nailed it.... so I presumed that nothing would change when I reloaded my programmes/files/os from time machine....
My macbook should be pretty fast for these specs, right? Anyway, after I reloaded my old customization (which you can see details of from the eyre screen grab) simple tasks like loading a blank word document takes more than 30 seconds like before it was 'repaired' (I could not do this test beforehand as the set up that came back from repair had no Word program on it). Presently it takes around 30 seconds to shut down and 45 seconds to a minute to boot up. When I loaded up a light session in my DAW (Ableton) the fans immediately sprung into full whirr at exactly the same ceaseless loudness as before repairing.
My question is: would something have drastically changed to when I reloaded my old setting/files/osx from time machine?.... I had no way to tell properly, but it seemed to work a bit better in the bare state I had it before loading my backed up system configuration.
