I have a 4,1 MP firmware-upgraded to 5,1 with 2 Samsung 840 SSDs of 256GB.
I originally bought 2 * 256GB instead of 1 * 512GB to get around the SATA-II bus speed limit. Works well.
One annoying thing: Due to Apples implementation, it does not seem possible to both have software RAID and Filevault 2 running at the same time.
I've seen guides on the net, where people use Terminal to circumvent the limits of the Disk Utility, but from what I can tell, those guides only shows how to create an encrypted logical volume that is not the boot drive.
Would purchasing a Sonnet, Apricorn or other board solve this problem?
Or does anyone know, if it's possible to create a software-RAIDed Filevault 2 boot drive in a Mac Pro?
Is the (badly reviewed) Apple Hardware RAID card the only solution?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions! I plan to do a clean install of Yosemite when it becomes available.
