FXNOW iOS App, Apple TV Gain Support for 'Simpsons World', All 552 Episodes of The Simpsons Available

Another useless app on Apple TV I can not access because I have Charter Communications just like every other app such as HBO Go, Showtime Anytime, Lifetime, Bravo and History channel. Apple has become the ass kissing buddies of cable who knows when they would notice Apple TV only benefit is Hulu+ and Netflix.

Same here, charter doesn't support any of these channel apps. Sadly for me charter is the only available high speed provider.

But does it include my favorite, yet controversial, episode of all time.... Homer vs. New York City ?

Yep, Cable monopoly is still popular, lobbyist still enjoying the corruption and Apple still supporting this Monopoly. Tim Cook is not really smart as we all hoped if he was he we make Apple TV more like Amazon Prime bring iTunes to be more like Amazon Prime movie/TV Show streaming or like Netflix, instead he wants to play nice.

Another useless app on my Apple TV and on the App store as I've long since cut the cord. Why pay over $100 a month to watch maybe 3 channels.

I was excited about this, but considering how much cable costs, I could buy every season on DVD, rip, encode and put the episodes my mac for less then 1 year of cable.

Yea, sticking the disc in my optical drive, launching handbrake and clicking "start" is a huge pain. I wish it was easier.

It has less to do with Apple and more to do with the fact that Charter (and other providers) just don't have streaming agreements with the channels you listed.

For example, other media devices like Apple TV have the same apps but you can only use it if your cable company has a streaming agreement with the content provider.

The content providers want money that the other isn't willing to give. I think as streaming continues to become more and more popular, this will change but until then Apple TV (and other devices like it) are in a weird spot.

I have DirecTV and I have the FXX channel, but like you, I can't use the FXX app, or other apps on Apple TV which completely sucks.

I can access HBO but that's only because I have the $13/month (or however much it is) HBO package added to my account.

All Apple can do is provide the App support, they have ZERO control over whatever deals Networks have with cable providers. I'm not the biggest apple fan but your argument is totally misplaced and really, pretty stupid. Not to mention the same thing applies to Prime, Hulu, Netflix, etc. They all have their own special deals with the networks for their content and pay HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS to secure the rights.

Why would Apple jump into that business when Prime, Netflix and Hulu are already doing it and already spent all the money. Apple would have to pay a few billion to get into the streaming movie/tv game. Why do you think they really bought Beats? They already had a good relationship with providers - which Apple is trying to ruin by playing "hardball."

And before you go on a rant against Cable Channels. They spend billions of dollars to provide content that you presumably enjoy for basically "free." They have to leverage their programming anyway they can and their business model has worked for 70 years, they have zero incentive to change it, just because this new generation are bunch of cheap freeloaders who think everything should be free, however and whenever they want. Or at the very least dirt cheap. Why they pick and choose specific cable providers to work with comes down to those cable providers paying for access to those apps. I don't like it and I've been known to yell and scream about HBO Go not being available on Roku because of Xfinity. Which in of itself would be acceptable if it wasn't already available on various other devices... But that's another argument.

It’s pretty neat. There are definitely some initial rollout issues, a few stutters, some odd behavior with playlists (they have a seasonal playlist for THoH EPs, but it kept starting the same one).

Every episode, tons of extra material, graphs that show popular/played EPs (that you can rollover for a desc/preview).

FWIW, DirecTV does _not_ support FXNow, yet they support HBOGO - I think it’s even weirder when a provider appears to be OK supporting some of these ATV channels, but not all.

No problem anyway, since we’re just using my parents Comcast account to access FNX

I was with you until here. FREE?? Are you insane? Shows cost money. That money comes from advertising and cable companies paying. Cable companies get their money from subscription costs, advertisers get their money from companies that pay them to advertise, companies get their money from products or services sold.

OR you pay for the show/season pass on Apple. I have NO IDEA where you got "free" out of that. Not even remotely.

Imagine you wanted to have your sink fixed. You call every plumber in town and they all tell you they'll fix your sink and replace your toilet. You say, "but I don't want my toilet replaced. All I want is my sink fixed." They yell at you that you are a cheap free loader and hang up on you. Now, reread your statement. I don't think anyone is demanding these things for free. What I want, and what many people want, is to be able to pay for what we want, not a bunch of crap we don't want. If I want HBO why do I need to pay for a full cable service? All I want is HBO. And I realize you likely weren't around when HBO got started, but you used to be able to get HBO by itself in the late 70's early 80's. So it can happen. Oh, and it is happening, next year. I am buying access the moment it is available on my Apple TV. I assume it won't be long before the "70 year old" model is finally seen as dated, and abandoned.

I do get HBO Go or Showtime Anytime on my iPhone through Cable service provider but not on Apple TV do you see how the logic fails here when both are Apple devices and should make no differences.

Yeah and guess what my Cable Provider tells me? Apple is at fault because of authentication issues. Lets be fair here neither want to play fair it should be simple as just entering your Email instead both Apple and Cable providers playing the BS card.

I have Dish so I pay but cannot get any channels like HBO, A&E, Networks (ABC, etc.) via AppleTV and now this because no agreement between Dish and them. i've had Dish since 1999 so it's hard for me to switch. I have WOW! internet though and I like it. Very reliable.

Bad analogy aside, I don't begrudge you or anyone else who wants a la carte programming. The problem that a la carters never seem to solve is how content providers will continue making the money they make today. Until that little conundrum is solved we will continue with the status quo.

The biggest problem I see in this forum is people treating these properties as stand alone entities. They're not. HBO and Cinemax are divisions of Time Warner. ESPN (another forum favorite) belongs to Disney. Comcast owns NBCUniversal which brings us NBC, Syfy, and USA Network. It's the same across the board. Everyone's favorite channel is owned by a larger company. I doubt these companies want to dilute the value of their properties without equitable profit. If someone finds a way to keep their money flowing, you will get your a la carte. Till then...
