I have it, but I really don't care for it.
If it's not vaguebook or kidbook, it's become a place for people to just show off.
"Look at this wonderfully amazing cheeseburger I ate today!!! LIFE IS SUCH A GIFT!!!!!" then sit back and collect 85 likes over a complete ******** post.
It's basically distorted reality, if someone ever posts even one single neutral/non-positive thing, it's like nobody will touch it with a ten foot pole and act like that person is a cancer.
But that stupid post about that benign mediocre cheeseburger? oh boy, it's the greatest thing on earth.

Facebook is what it is for each person. I'm not in it for "likes". It's a way to communicate with others who I actually give two ***** about.
No, I don't post anything. I also think the whole stay in contact thing is bogus, if you cared about those people you'd have their phone number and give them a ring once in a while. FB is just an online popularity contest/showoff platform for the vast majority of users.
Call it what you want but I never said I keep in contact with people in lieu of using other methods. that's just stupid.

I canceled my facebook account 4 years ago. I will never do any social media again other than forums due to privacy issues. (I never give forums any personal information other that my basic location and birthday. My real name is never used)
My female friends tend to post too many pictures of food and helpful mottos and uplifting sayings. The guys put up pictures of themselves cheering "at the game". Anyone with their first newborn will quickly become unbearable.

I'm part of a few private groups on facebook which is 95% of the reason I go on. The other reason is to discover tour dates of bands, it's like an all-in-one concert promoter so I find out who's playing near me....its great.

But are they friends, sort-of 'friends', chance-met friends, genuine, real friends (the kind you could proverbially go tiger-hunting with), or, are they the sort of people for whom the boundaries which describe different forms of relationships between human beings have 'morphed', dissolved, transformed, disintegrated into one amorphous blob called 'friends' because they simply cannot conceive that anyone would want to be in a relationship with anyone else without describing it as one between 'friends'?
I'll be honest; a thousand 'friends'? I find the thought terrifying. If I don't know the person personally, feel I cannot sit with them would not wish to drink coffee/beer/wine (and 18 year old scotch, aged Armagnac or XO cognac - amendments suggested by my online friend mobilehaathi, and readily and happily accepted) with them, chat with them, laugh with them, then, they are not a friend. They are someone whose path I have crossed, possibly very pleasantly, on the winding bridleways of life…...

That is what I thought; 'strangers who send you messages' has a comforting ring of truth about it - I find that I much prefer it to sticking the gushing label 'friend' on anyone who wishes to make contact, and reserve this noun, term, word, for those who actually merit the description of 'true friends'.

I understand, with a small modification...
Scotch, (18 year old or older for preference), serious Armagnac (a quarter of a century, maybe 20 years old at a push), and XO cognac are all happily accepted as appropriate and entirely fitting amendments on to the list what constitutes what can be - or ought to be - consumed with those whom one addresses as 'true friends' ...
It's been quite a while since I had a nice Armagnac (the Delord 25 Yr Old Bas Armagnac comes highly recommended.......by me). Perhaps it is time to search for another bottle in the near future.
Yes, that precise bottle was also recommended by an absent friend of ours; and it was also recommended by the staff of an excellent whiskey (and other beverages of an alcoholic nature) specialist store.
Anyway, recently, I ordered (and took delivery of) two bottles of same, which are now sitting, unopened, in my (embarrassingly) well stocked um, room which doubles up as a sort of cellar .
As it happens, I recommended that particular bottle to our mutual friend.
Ah, well, the circle closes .fascinating, as matters are tracked to their ultimate source ... Ah, well, now (if there was an icon to depict rubbing hands in gleeful pleasure I would click on it, now). Did you indeed? (Chuckles). As an historian by training I love tracking stuff back to its stated source .
Well, those bottles are sitting winking at me in a room which - incongruously - doubles as laundry room and cellar (the latter, however, is rather impressively well stocked, though I do say so myself).
