Hi, my macbook air screen cracked. I'd like to project it on my home computer screen to back it up.

I bought a minidisplay port to VGA adapter. When I attach this to my home computer I only see the macbook air background (no icons). I had a similar problem when I used a minidisplay port to HDMI adapter to watch on the TV. I had to drag an icon over to the right as if the TV was a second screen to the right of my laptop. Now that won't work because my laptop screen is cracked and I can't see what to drag.

How can I project my laptop screen onto my home computer screen? Thanks!!
