Using an iMac as an external display with Final Cut Pro X

I have a 2012 iMac in my office, but recently began using a Macbook Pro 15" with FCPX. I can use the iMac as an external display with a Thunderbolt cable to extend the desktop of the Macbook, but I wondered if it is possible use it to view playback in Final Cut Pro X, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12783

Any pointers would be very welcome, thankyou.
