I have a 64GB SDXC Samsung micro card with SD adapter.

The adapter sticks out of the macbook air by about 1cm. If I buy a smaller adapter to fit perfectly into the MBA, will that affect the read and write speed of the micro card inside it? Can a different brand adapter damage the micro sim by samsung?

Thanks

An adapter is just that, a passive device. There's no reason a different adapter would affect transfer speed. Some adapters are really badly manufactured and could be DOA, but not damage anything unless you need to apply force to fit any part in.
