I currently have a 5th generation iPod Touch, running 7.1.2 (if that's important) and it won't turn on since it seems to be stuck on the apple logo screen, and it won't connect to my PC/iTunes/Anything. I've been trying various methods to try and turn it on, as well as put it into recovery and/or DFU mode which is impossible to do so since my home button is pushed in too far and won't work. I've already tried RecBoot, redsn0w and TinyUmbrella to fix it but nothing seems to work since it won't connect to my computer and isn't showing up in iTunes. Please help, I'm desperate!

Hey, I'm not sure if my method can help, since I've only done it on an iPod Touch 4G on IOS6, and I'm not sure if there will be problems since your Home button doesn't work. This has allowed me to SSH into my iPod Touch and pull out any files I needed, even app/game saves, when I was in a Recovery Loop and couldn't use my iPod. The repair allowed Tiny Umbrella to kick the iPod out of the Recovery Loop for me.

Download Putty:

Download WinSCP:

Download SSH_RD_Rev03B.jar:

In that link it mentions about needing to install 'JRE-7-Windows-i586-iftw.exe' for it to work, but you can try without it to see if it works.

Follow the instructions here to get access into your iPod:
https://github.com/msftguy/ssh-rd/wiki/Windows-How-To

If /mnt2 doesn’t show, restart the instructions for Putty, and after typing in the root and password, (before typing ‘mount.sh’), enter in:

fsck_hfs -r /dev/disk0s1s2

It will go through a repair, wait till it’s done, and mnt2 should work. Hope this works out for you.

Have you considered the possibility that the bad Home button is responsible? You said the Home button "won't work," but more likely, it's constantly working - stuck in the 'on' position.

If the problem is hardware, all the software fixes in the world may not solve it. How would you tell the iPod to ignore the Home button?

By broken I mean that my home button has been pushed in too far and is now stuck, however it happened almost a year ago and has been no issue in the past.
