I went to purchase a world adapter kit for an upcoming trip and apple.com says the kit is "currently unavailable"..... I clicked on the chat now button to find out why. I did not get an answer, but it seems weird.

Maybe their upgrading it to a Lightning cable, but why would it take so long....

there's cheaper options out there that do the same job in a much more compact form and support way more power plugs than just the apple ones.

I guess people just aren't buying it.

I usually just remove the regional 'module' and use the appropriate IEC C7 ("figure 8") mains lead plugged directly into the power brick. Its not as elegant as having the appropriate regional module but it does the job and works for many non-Apple chargers too.

It's still available overseas, and it's the same kit/plugs.

I think it's good value, but should be a 12W adapter and lightning cable, maybe they are updating it with those parts?

I was thinking they may be updating it as well with a Lightning Cable. I can confirm what the OP stated though, they are definitely still in stores as I saw someone just yesterday checking out with one at a local store.
