Crash during Yosemite install.. won't boot

Alright so it's a late 2008 MacBook (aluminum). 2.0 ghz intel.

I was installing OSX Yosemite when it froze. I left it for a while but the progress bar never increased so I held the power button down to reboot it.

Now when it turns on it begins the Yosemite install again but when I select my HDD it says there's not enough free space (9GB).

So what are my options here? I now have no OS. Can I boot off a USB stick? Would that actually work?

Any help is appreciated.

If you have a USB recovery key, yes you could boot to that and try Disk util to see what is going on with your drive.

What do you have in the way of USB keys or backups to work with?

I would erase the whole drive and start fresh.
