Do I have to erase my new iPhone for iTunes sync?

The only thing you stand to lose are songs or videos NOT in your iTunes library. Or podcasts.

Yes, if that's the library you want to use and it has your songs and movies etc. on it. It should ask if you want to erase and use that library instead. When you sync again, then you can add the music & videos back. Your back up doesn't include music and videos. You have to sync those back on from your iTunes library.
