Hi, I have a G4 cube that has a 1.8ghz 7447 CPU...now its time to tackle the video card. Have a Radeon 7500 at the moment... any good recommendations that wont break the bank? I had read a Geforce 6200 would work?
thanks

ig the 6200 would work I'd look into the Radeon PC&Mac 9600 that is probably the BEST AGP graphics card you could get for a PowerMac

I don't think the 9600 PC&Mac will work as the Cube is only 2x AGP and the 9600 requires 4x at a minimum. I'm also not sure it would fit in the Cube.

It's also pretty far down on the totem pole of "best" Powermac AGP cards. In a 4x computer like a Quicksilver or MDD, you can(theoretically) use a 9700 or 9800. Several of us are experimenting with flashing PC cards that are equivalent to the X800. And, of course, in the 8x G5, you have full access to cards like the GEForce 6800 Ultra and Radeon X800/X850.

In any case, to answer the question, the best "official" card for the Cube is the GEForce MX2. These are nice in that they do give some upgrade over the(usual) stock Rage 128, and the special Cube-only card faceplate is interchangeable between the two cards. The downside is that the Cube version of this card came with an extra large heatsink to help keep it cool, while the PC version tends to run hot.

There are other cards that folks have shoe-horned in. The downsides are that you are limited on size-both in length and in height, as the video card compartment in the Cube is quite small. You also need cards that will work in a 2x AGP slot-not all cards will.

The ATI 9600 will won't work in a Cube, as it does not support AGP 2X slots. Even then, it is a mid-range card.

The best card that can fit in an unmodified Cube is a rare variant of the ATI 9800. The best card that can be found easily and cheaply is the Nvidia 6200. But be warned, it is not a good gaming card due to its 64-bit bus.

If you need ADC, then your 7500 is the easiest.

If you use DVI, then a flashed 6200 is optimal, cheap, and generally runs cool.

I've got a 6200 running in my Cube at the moment. It's a lovely bit of kit but without some sort of cooling solution it runs EXTREMELY hot. If you pick up a passive-cooled one then be sure to pair it with a little VGA cooling fan. It'll make a world of difference.
