I've been having issues hooking up my early 2014 13" MBA to an external CRT monitor (a Samsung SyncMaster 997DF) with a ThunderBolt to VGA adapter. The text appears blurry, and even more so the higher the resolution and refresh rate. When I went to "About this Mac" and clicked System Report, and proceeded to Graphics/Displays it seems to have detected as an LCD. Is there any way to fix this? Here's the information under Graphics/Displays (note, I changed the resolution to 768 as it isn't as blurry, native is 1600x1200 w/ 76hz refresh rate):

Your adapter does the conversion from digital (Thunderbolt/DisplayPort) to analog (VGA) and is thus responsible for image quality and conveying identification information from the monitor.

Any problems you're having with the setup should probably be blamed on the adapter. Sorry. Maybe you can return it?

The "LCD" stuff you see refers to the "Color LCD" which is the built-in screen of your MBA. The SyncMaster is recognized correctly, even though it says nothing about CRT, because it shows "@ 60 Hz" which only apply to CRTs.

As for the blurry image, could be the adaptor... I don't know.
