New iPhone won't charge?

I got a new 5S today, turned it on and the battery was flat, its sitting with the little battery symbol and its in the red. I connected the charger it lights up the screen but it won't power on, been sitting on the charger 10 mins now. Any ideas?

It won't power on till there is sufficient battery power to boot fully.
