Hi all,

I have a new MacBook Pro (OS X Yosemite 10.10.2) and would like to transfer all of my data and applications to this mac, from my old MacBook.

Normally, I would use Time Machine from an external hard drive and Migration Assistant. However, my IT department have created a user account on the new MBP which I have to use to access internal servers etc. If I use Migration Assistant and Time Machine, this will of course transfer the whole old user account (which I cannot use).

Is there a way to transfer just the data and applications from Time Machine to an existing user account? I tried to just open the most recent back up and transfer files manually but don't have the right permissions to do this.

I guess I could transfer all data manually, but am not sure how to go about this without copying everything to an external hard drive...

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Thanks,

Amy
