WWDC will be in August

Christmas comes late, this summer:
http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/
Aug 7-11.

That makes a Leopard preview a sure bet in my book (hopefully some without non-disclosures!) and I have visions of Conroe towers too...

WorldWide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2006

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif

Apple announced today that the WorldWide Developer's Conference will be taking place between August 7-11 in San Francisco, California.

Quote:
Last year, WWDC attendees watched Apple unveil its plan to transition to Intel microprocessors and then headed to the lab to run their code on Intel-based prototype systems. This immediate, hands-on access to the newest Apple technologies happens for developers at WWDC and nowhere else.
WWDC is a conference targeted at professional developers, however, Apple has made a number of significant annoucements during the keynote speech over the past few years. August represents a change for the conference, which has typically taken place in June.

Apple has stated that they will be previewing Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) at WWDC 2006.

As much as I understand their reasoning, I really wish they would stop moving WWDC all over the place. First May, then late June, then early June, now August?

Time to go figure out a new trip itinerary...

(Having said that, we'd better get beta copies of Leopard.)

Wow a little late but at least I will be out of school instead of taking my exams.

edit: Maybe they want to time it with the conroe chips?

Well WWDC is the best bet for when the Intel PowerMacs will be released. I was hoping to get one for my birthday (which is only a few days after the event). If they do release them then, I just hope we don't have long to wait before they are in the shops (like with the MacBook Pro) so I can get one in time.

Hopefully by that time, someone will have found a decent solution to running Windows on Intel Macs so I can get rid of my current AMD PC.

Final Intel Change-over Announcements

I would bet money that Steve announces and introduces the new Intel PowerMac and new MacBook Pro's (12or13 & 17)...completing the line-up. Announced in August...shipped 30-60 days later.
(Other macs will be intro'd before then)

I'm sure these dates are due to some hardware release. Anyone interested in a new Intel PowerMac? Err, uh, Mac Pro? MacTower Pro? MacBox Pro?

Hopefully that means the 12" & 17" MacBook Pros will be coming out before WWDC.

Or maybe the date is based on when some of the more important UB's will finally be available?

The other MacBook Pros will probably be announced a month give or take before WWDC and the PowerMacs at WWDC.

We have been talking so much about Hardware lately. I'm very curious to see what new features Leopard go to offer. Can't wait.

I wonder if Leopard is going to offer any features that leave PPC users out in the cold, to encourage upgrades to Intel-based Macs?

I wonder if one of the reasons its so late this year so MS wont be able to steal any features of Leopard.

PS: if anyone wants to digg the story feel free to

NOOOOOOO... OOOO.... OOOOO!

I was hoping that Apple would release an updated iPod Nano at this year's WWDC, (which was hopefully going to be held in June / July). Then I could buy one for about £50 cheaper while I was on holiday in Japan.

My vacation ends on the 14th of August, so I doubt if Apple do release a new iPod nano, that they will be available to purchase straight away in the Apple Stores.

Intel (Conroe) Tower
HD Display
Intel software updates
iPod AV (?)
...

I'm screwed.

I thing that I can guarantee is that Leopard will have some Safari tab Expose thing like we saw in Windows Vista.

The iPod nano has no place at WWDC.

The move to August is surely because of one (or both) of the following reasons, more likely the latter:
1: This date corresponds loosely to the release of Merom, Conroe, and Woodcrest.
2: Leopard simply wouldn't be ready for preview and/or beta release in June.

They definetly delayed it so that they could release the Conroe PowerMacs, Merom MacBook Pros, and preview Leopard only a few months before its release so it wouldn't steal from Tiger sales, and so that M$ wouldn't steal from Leopard! At this point, PC manufacturers will probably have the final editions of Vista, so M$ won't be able to do ANYTHING about it. Also, this gives that "Finder developer" Apple was looking for more time to work on the Finder in 10.5.

153 days of unrelenting rumour mongering and 'fakes' until probable announcements as well as severely dissapointed members who can't have their MacMiniPVR or their iPod invisa that holds 8 million songs songs.

Why don't we just start whining NOW about what Apple does not release THEN...

"...exactly...It's exciting..."

(I just watched the SNL skit again...I can't help myself...it's rotf funny).

This is obviously a delay so that they can announce the Intel Powermacs at the conference. Intel aren't planning to release the Conroe or Merom chips until September time. Apple can easily say 'taking pre-orders now for delivery in September'. This would sound pretty silly unless the WWDC took place in August.

I'd venture to say that this confirms we won't see Leopard released this year.

My bet:

WWDC 2006: Preview of Leopard; Beta version available to developers.
Paris: Update on status of Leopard.
MWSF 2007: Release date of Leopard announced.

Most likely Intel PowerMac's (or whatever the name may be changed to) announced.

Does anyone else think the MBP's will only be available in 15" and 17"? I just don't think the words "Pro" and 12" or 13" belong together.

A late WWDC isn't a bad thing for us rumor fans: it really means only...

* A later glimpse at Leopard.

* But a BETTER glimpse at Leopard.

It doesn't tell us anything about the timeframe of actual shipping products: Apple can (and does) host events whenever it needs to for that. WWDC is for developers, not for consumers.

Macs at WWDC will happen if they were going to be ready around then anyway.

it is certainly good in terms of leopard.....it will be better developed. still, it means longer agonising waits

i really hope we get a release of leopard at MWSF.......it has been in the dark since april 29th last year, which means there will be almost 18 months worth of development by WWDC. how long did they spend on tiger whilst panther was the current OS?
