What's in the "updated" MacBoook Air?

In short, most of the rumors turned out to be true. Nothing unexpected. Thinner, less powerful, retina, one port.
To put it in the better perspective, it's a thinner 2011 MBA with less ports but better (yet smaller) display and better battery life. The processing power of these devices is roughly the same.

Same prices as before and the only difference is they use the newest Intel processors. The Intel HD 6000 graphics would probably be considered the "biggest" change to the MBA line (it was HD 5000 previously).
They said the new 13" model has flash memory that is twice as fast. Does that mean 1.4GB/sec? (my 2013 is 700MB/sec). That would be pretty impressive. Also Thunderbolt 2. Don't think that would do anything for me, I have a couple thunderbolt drives and they are no faster than my USB 3 drives. Guess it would be nice for external SSD though.

Differences there are that the MBA has the ports it always has, plus the 720p HD FaceTime camera. You just miss out on Retina, USB-C, Force click, being fanless, battery life (?), and the keyboard.
For some, it's an even push. However, it's easy to see that this product is to be slotted under the MBA, just like the original MacBook was under the MBA and MBP.

It seems non-US pricing went up, Australian prices are more expensive across the board including upgrades.
Considering it's the same ram as the last model, it's a bit ridiculous.
I'm glad I got my 2014 Macbook Air, which worked out around AUD$150-200 cheaper than a 2015.
If you don't need HD6000 graphics, the value equation is arguably worse off with the price hike.
We have the 2013 1.3/4/256 model at home and it is a beast!

Holly molly you are right, $1 is now 0.92€.
If this continues soon it will be 1:1.
Dollar however is at it's incredible highs, meaning $1 = 3.18Lt (Litas), when normally for a long time it was ~2.4Lt.
But it runs equally fine on all macs brought out from 2012 till now.
As far as i know LR likes CPUs with high clock speed as it relies on that rather than GPU. Of course also a bit of Ram helps.
If you are talking about 2014 Mac Mini, then the rMB in CPU intensive apps will be much slower. it's roughly 180 (or less if it's excessively throttling) against 288CB - Cinebench R15. To get things into perspective, the 2014 MBA (i5) sits at 234CB, almost exactly halfway.

You are right that CPU clock speed really matters for importing and exporting. So does ssd. There is absolutely no performance gain in having more than 4gb RAM.
The whole purpose of 8GB for the base model is nothing more than a great selling point. There is no use of this amount of RAM in Core-M device with ultra fast SSD, it was not built for sony vegas pro.
