Ambitious for a device that is bound to have a rapid life cycle compared to traditional watches.

Both in terms of features, but also in terms of things like this:

"Sorry, this version of AppleWatch OS is not compatible with your version of iOS on your iPhone".

I can see it now.

"...while the larger 42mm model will cost between $599 to $1099." This is incorrect the 42mm starts at $499

Yikes... I was looking forward to the watch but my Moto 360 is looking mighty fine now. Maybe next year. I suspect many who were thinking of getting the stainless steel one will now opt for the sport edition instead.

$$$

WAAY too much money for this iMHO, really starts at 400$ (who is going to buy the smaller version?) SS starts at 600$ and seems like QUICKLY goes to 1000$ for a more interesting band..

This is very much going to be an ASPIRATIONAL product, not for people used to buying a phone for 199$ (now 299$) and getting 24 months out of it.

Mad pricing. Add the cost of the iPhone that you also need, and it gets even more ridiculous.

Good luck Apple. Let's hope there's enough stupid geeks out there who are going to fall for this.

the apple watch is going to be one of the biggest mistakes in apples history. it looks awful, not a lot of features, you need your iPhone with you, and it costs way to much

With the exchange rate this watch will start at $700. That's far too much for me to consider.

No you are incorrect. The 42mm starts at $599 for the stainless steel.

Apple must be very confident to have established these price tiers. I wasn't expecting such a huge markup based on band selection alone.

The iPhone's price started at $600 and dropped to $200 within 4 months of its release.

Apple could do something similar with the Apple Watch when they realize it's not shipping in as much volume as they want.

I'm struggling with these prices. While I can afford it, it will be really hard to justify dropping $600-$1100 for the model I'd want when such a product likely evolves at a very rapid pace and this version will likely soon be very obsolete. I'm really going to have to think about this one.

$549.

Well, there goes any possibility there was of me purchasing an Apple Watch.

On the upside, I can cancel my plans on searching for a more affordable metal band.
