Hello,
I recently downlod Duet Display that makes me able to use my iPad as a 2nd screen. I am looking for an iPad stand that can hold my iPad horizontally parallel to my macbook screen.

Hoverbar 3 got what I want but its too expensive and it has to be either attached on the computer on the table. Is there something similar or with similar height above the table?

I use:

Nice... but very expensive for me. I can't justify a $120 iPad stand that I use sometimes when I am using it as a second display. but maybe I can get it used...

A non pivoting version of the Stabile is available for $30 less. And even less than that used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B003NG73AS/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

There's even a couple of those available on that link through Amazon Warehouse Deals (their returns division), complete with free 2-day shipping for Prime members.

I have the original Stabile (the first gen pivoting one) and though a bit overpriced, it's an incredibly solid hunk of metal that's well crafted & should last pretty much forever. And it's device agnostic, for the most part; while sized for full size tablets, even the iPad Mini fits on mine, though only in landscape mode. No need to remove cases, nothing to bolt onto your monitor or desk, no tools required.

I am just using one of these instead of a stand. However, I had to take the Apple cover off the iPad before attaching it.

Wow... this is like exactly what I want, except that I am afraid the iPad weight might damage the screen and in addition to that I own an iPad 3 which is not supported:(

but i will be definitely getting it once I upgrade my iPad, hopefully it will be still in production

Looks like I will just have to go with this one or something similar.

Yeah, I think the iPad 3 would be too thick and heavy and their website doesn't say that it is compatible.

I have the Air 2 and 2011 MBP and it doesn't cause any issues with the screen. One of the main benefits to this approach is that you can use it on your lap. A stand would require a surface to sit it on. However, if you have an iPad 3, you don't have much choice.
