Hey,

I'm a filmmaking student and for that I bought a pretty powerful Imac.

Sometimes I have to transfer large documents around 200GB but it's taking my mac 3days or more :( if I'm looking to my tasks, only 5 Gb of my 32Gb Ram is used and my CPU is less then 5%

What's wrong, can somebody help me?
Your 32GB of RAM won't help you for transfering documents! Neither the power of your computer.
What kind of transfer are you doing: network? On an external drive?

You need a very expensive fast drive. Like a 12TB Pegasus R6 12TB, or an external SSD (if you want transfer speeds above 400MB/s).

I'm transferring from an intel SSD 530 series ( black magic ) to a seagate Expansion Desktop 2TB.

I already was thinking of buying a big SSD, any recommendations?

I recommend that before you buy expansive computers like this, you read up what the components do.
Neither RAM nor cpu will help you transfering files. Also the "ram used" number in activity monitor does not really mean that much.

Are those two drives both externaly connected?
Do they use thunderbolt or usb 3.0
How about the ssd in your iMac?
