Is it necessary to charge a new Powerbook 17 battery for 12 hours?

I read on a website that it is necessary to charge a new PowerBook battery for *12* hours steady to ensure longer life. Is this necessary?

I have read that lithium batteries don't have a 'memory' and don't need to be charged in any special way. I do realize that I will need to initially calibrate the battery with a full charge and full discharge.

Any thoughts?

That initial calibration you were talking about should be fine. It shouldn't take twelve hours and it doesn't need twelve hours.
