Ok, I bit the bullet last week and upgraded from iPhoto to Photos. And lets just say it's less than stellar. But the main issue at this point that I am having is, ever since making the upgrade, my entire Photos library has been uploading automatically to my Google Photos drive/account. I made no changes with Google and this didn't happen before so it appears to be an Apple issue.

Any idea why this may be happening?

Is your new Photos app library in your Google Drive sync folder?
Perhaps that is why they are uploaded to Google Drive.

Check this and if so, you might/should be able to exclude this folder/library from Google Drive sync.
