Hi Everyone,

I am experiencing a strange problem with my 12" iBook (purchased July 2005):

The computer starts up until after the "Mac OS X" screen (with the progress bar), but then the screen goes blank (or rather, blue) and nothing happens. I have tried restarting a number of times, to no avail.

Please help if you can - I am quite worried at this point.

Does it boot successfully from the System CD/DVD?
Can you run Disk Utility from there and Repair the iBook drive?

IMO, not needed.

This is most likely a problem with the loginwindow.plist, but I'd like to know if it's autologin (and therefore the user's .plist, or if the user logs in and therefore the system .plist).

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, it is set so that I need to enter my password upon start-up.

My suggestion would be:

Boot in Single User Mode (hold down Cmd-S at boot)
At the prompt, type:

mount -uw /

Hit Return
At the prompt, type:

mv /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist /var/root/.

Hit Return
At the prompt, type:

reboot

Hit Return
Your Mac should reboot and you should get back to the login window. You've lost nothing, as you only moved (mv) the preference file, should you need to go back to it for any reason.

Thanks, yellow.

I will give this a try now and report back.
