Suddenly iTunes will not import CDs. It "thinks" it is importing them; lists all the tracks but does not really import any content. This has happened on multiple CDs now.

The CDs will also not play in my computer. They play fine on a CD player. So I am thinking something is wrong with my CD/DVD drive reader.

Anyone have any ideas for troubleshooting?

This is happening
  1. when I click the message asking if I want to import
  2. when I try importing by selecting the files from File/Add to Library
  3. on any encoder in the import settings

When I try to manually add the tracks inside of the Finder by copying them and adding them to the folder I get the error message:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “1 Give Me Some.aiff” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)

System Details
Macbook Pro 2009 era / 8GB RAM
Yosemite 10.10.2 but will likely update to 10.10.3 tonight or tomorrow
iTunes 12.1.2

Thanks!

It may indeed be a sign of a failing drive; I've had a few fail over the years so it's not unheard of. Are these commercially-pressed CDs or CD-Rs? Do you also have problems with data CDs? How about DVDs?
