Black boxes with Voice over ON

Hello all. I'm trying to get my DIGIT II remote to control Keynote on my iPad. I've got it to pair successfully and it does work, HOWEVER, since the remote needs voice over mode ON to work, the black boxes that highlight the spoken text are visible. I need these black boxes gone but with voice over still on. Any help with this matter would be great appreciated as this on going problem has been quite frustrating. Thanks all!
