I have to fix my Mum's Mac Mini which is running super slow, but I know if I format and reinstall I'm going to cop hell because everything will be "different" (apparently Safari is "everything" and it has to be kept as is). I don't really want to keep it as is because it doesn't even look like Safari does on my iMac. So what can I do to refresh the Mac, get it close to stock and hopefully running fast but keep Safari as is?

Download the program EtreCheck and run it. The printout will show incompatible "services" or unload processes that need to be manually deleted, then reboot after deleteing. This first boot will be slow because the system is replaced get essential services. After that it should run quickly. Good Luck.
