No Media Event around April 1st?

http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif

UBS analysts claim that Apple will not likely be holding a special event for its 30th anniversary.

Despite expectations that Apple will be releasing new hardware soon, another media event is not expected.

UBS analysts do predict new Intel-based iBooks and a larger MacBook Pro in the "June quarter" and new iPods (including video iPods) by the fall.

This is contrary to previous claims that Apple would hold such an event.

Seems to make sense seeing that the First is a Saturday. I think that I'll join the chorus of people saying that either Tuesday would be more likely...

The article says "no media event for the 30th Anniversary." To me that implies no event at all, including April 1st, the Tuesday before and the Tuesday after. I suspect, with all the talk of the 60GB 5G being put on the "at risk" list that we'll see a mid-cycle upgrade to 80GB for the 5G, but no event to announce it (similar to the upgrade to the 4G line to go from B/W to color). As with the 4G & 5G announcements, in October we'll see the iPod video (6G?)...just my 2 cents of course!

Except for classic Apple has gotten rid of everything that used to be Mac. NeXt really took over. Steve might not want to wast time with a past he wasn't a full part of. I think they should release some sort of documentary about apples 30 years on iTunes. Something.

Call me observant, but the quarter June occurs in is the second quarter. Which happens to be the same quarter April 1st (Apple's 30th Aniversary) occurs in.

So no matter what happens on April 1st (or 4th?) UBS comes out correct.

Great observation, something could occur at any point between April and June. I think the 20th aniversery Mac was released on March 20th, so the April first may not be worth agonizing over. It could be April 15th or 30th. Lets just hope they start rolling things out soon....

Why are analysts random guesses even published for things like that. We all know there will be an anniversary event even if it is two weeks late it will still happen....june quarter....god i don't like UBS...

Gatortenn thinks it's too soon...

for them to be launching a new iPod. Apple has never been one to do what's expected. Therefore, I'd expect them to NOT have an event.

I guess they could just release them without Steve...but why do one recently for less interesting stuff than a new form factor iBook and not do one for the 30th. I think Apple will do the media stuff - maybe Steve will release it on a TV show that day or something.

So, i guess we get nothing then, unless it's a silent update on Tuesday. I was really hoping to check the specks on a new ibook to replace a craptacular rev c. 12" PB.

Guess we keep waiting.

Something will happen. Apple won't let this special day pass without announcing any new products.

they will do something simply because if they dont, AAPL will take a hit. all the analysts are expecting something, and expectations are what drive stock prices.

Looks like new iBooks/Macbooks won't be due till 30th April. I won't be surprised if they launch the 13.3" Macbook Pro on that day as well. Maybe the complete range on a single day.

If I remember correctly both the nano and the video were launched within a few days of each other.

Actually, a few analysts have said that they don't expect any product releases for the 30th anniversary...

I think it was like 4 or 6 weeks...the nano came out with the rokr phone in September, and then the video pod came out with the isight imac, I think around late October...

No, stock reasons are why they aren't going
to have an event. Remember, Steve just sold
his stocks. If they could have sold them AFTER
the event, they'd have made more. Since they
were sold, that must mean there was no event
planned and no products to release.

Sale of stock

I don't practice law in the US (I do in the UK) but if Steve had deliberately not sold his shares on the basis that he knew there was going to be an event which might put the price up then wouldn't that be insider trading? I don't think he would be dumb enough to get caught out like that - the sale of shares was to fund his tax liability and probably had no relation to the continued roll-out of intel products, which everyone knows is coming anyway.
