Searching Apple Mail

When I run a search in Apple mail, the search is displayed chronologically, but the scroll bar starts at the bottom showing the very oldest message. This is not what I want, as I usually have years of messages and would prefer to view the newest messages first.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't see anything in Preferences, and I also haven't found a similar thread on the forums.
