Canon advertises this printer as having ONLY Windows drivers, however there is a solution if you are interested in buying the printer (I bought one for around AUD150, delivered in Melbourne).

As reported in Macosxhints here there is an OSX driver for the Canon LBP3000. Go to the linked Canon page (which is in Japanese) then scroll to near the bottom of the page for links to the driver (MXCAPT160). Download that and install it. Edit: The printer dialogue (when you attach it) is then in English.

It doesn't offer all the options available in Windows (mainly output quality & economy modes) but is fine for straightforward printing to A4, letter, legal, A5, A6 and a couple of Japanese envelope sizes (Yougata-4 approximates DL).

Version of OS is the key

Yes, Canon Japan does have a driver for Mac OS... but not for Mac OS X. My experience with them was unhelpful. It would be really nice to know if anyone else has discovered a solution or an answer as to how to use the LBP 3000 with Mac OS X.

Yes, there is a new driver from Canon on their Japanese web site and that should work.
This is the link http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/lasershot/drv-macx.html

and you should scroll down to the box with the heading 'Canon Advanced Printing Technology (orange) There syou will find the LBP3000 driver for Macintosh. I've tried it on both OS 10.4.11 and 10.5 and it works like a charm.
One thing I had to do and that was delete all previous non-functioning drivers from my printer list that had stopped the printing process. If you cue to this old list it won't work.
Success.

Unfortunately this driver doesn't seem to be working on my mac. It's been installed without a problem (let alone guessing Japanese :D:confused:), but when I try to print anything it shows document in the queue but status is "Stopped". I tried to print from different applications but with no success.
May be you experienced the the problem and know how to make it print? Thanks!

my LBP3000 now won't print after an upgrade to Mac OS X Lion. :(

this doesn't look like good news. http://www.canon.com.au/en-AU/Support-Services/Support-News/Lion-Support

then i tried this: http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100359005.html

but i still can't print!

Try this: http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/lasershot/capt4macx.html

It should work on Lion!!! I just installed and work perfectly fine with me. The web page is in Japanese but the actual dmg is in English

Here is the image of the download button:http://cweb.canon.jp/drv-upd/common/img/btn/btn-download-on.png

Upgraded to OS 10.6.8

I can't upgrade to Lion because my iMac is too old for this upgrade.

I have upgraded to 10.6.8 and of course - my Canon LBP3000 won''t print.
I tried to install the driver for Lion but no go either.
Has anyone upgraded to OS 10.6.8 and made this printer work?
Please, enlighten me.
Julian
