Hi Guys
I guess there are 2 questions here,

1. best option for sharing movies out of iMove for those with mac and those without
2. best option for converting videos that can be burnt to DVD or flash drive for
viewing on TVs and Windose
.......Gary

iMovie does share movies as .mp4 file: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruBYJ9Fk3Lk

If that is not compatible with Windows 3.11, the user should upgrade to at least Windows 2000 or XP.

The TV thing depends on the TV, but many modern TVs can read MP4 files, since it has been a standard for almost a decade.

Unless you want to share AVI files, which are a relict of the past.

If I'm not mistaken, one can burn an AVI file to DVD using Finder on a Mac. Insert blank disc, drag AVI file onto it, click burn button.

If someone is wanting to make a video DVD (that will play in a DVD player) from an AVI file, this turns into a game of converting the AVI into a file that will let a program like iDVD or Toast create a video DVD.

OP, to #1, render any video you have as a .mp4 and that should play on most anything Windows or Mac. To #2, there's probably no single answer. But the triad of iMovie, iDVD or Toast and Handbrake should cover most options.

Many TVs have USB ports, so a .mp4 on a USB stick will probably be playable. If someone doesn't have a USB port, maybe buy an :apple:TV and then they can play .mp4s stored in iTunes on Macs or Windows.

I think mp4 is a best choice. It's reasonably efficient - good quality in a compact size - and can be viewed on all modern platforms. You can drag into iDVD to burn to DVD, and upload to YouTube so that essentially any platform, including mobile, can view.

Tks Guys,
Finally gone FCP, my free trial has run out but very happy with the software,
Also have Aiseesoft video converter now, works a treat
.....Gary

Burn any format video to DVD disc which could playing on the DVD player, you just need a smart application - DVDBurner which is also cheaper than iDVD. Download the trial version to get a free trial experience. And there is also video converter tools -Video Converter, which supports enormous formats and export video to any format.
Thanks ~
