Let's say you could purchase a brand new 12" iBook G4 right out of apple inventory. Would you take that over a Revision B 15" powerbook? The Powerbook is gonna be exactly $1500, and the iBook is with an education discount.
 
...or you could just ignore this thread, since 15 views tells me noone can help me anyhow. More dedicated video memory, bigger screen, higher system bus, superdrive, and It can be upgraded to 2 gb instead of just 1.5. Later!

p.s. individual specs are not listed for every model in the buyer's guide, someone should get on that right away...I had to look at another forum to get my answers.
 
it depends what you need it for but 12" is too small for me

i love my 14" ibook g4 but between a 12" ibook or a 15" powerbook i'd take the powerbook i think
 
apparently it runs about the same as the 1.5ghz model, which will be just fine...I'll be doing a LOT of photo editing and illustration, so the extra 32mb of video ram will help I'm sure, plus the system bus is a little better than the ibook. I think 2gb of ram and a paint job are in store though, colorware is gonna be receiving a call in the near future.
 
I'd pick the powerbook over the iBook as well. I have an iBook and it's just not satisfactory. The physical build of it is garbage. Everything creaks and cracks and my screen sits twisted and titled and it's just not great all together - i'd get a powerbook if i could go back in time.
 
If you're going to be doing a lot of photoshop I would get the 15 inch PB no question. I have a 12inch PB and I would definelty like some more screen realestate when I'm trying to work.
 
rev. B 15" powerbook would be... 1.25 Ghz? If so, get the ibook. The screen space is important, but you'd be paying $1500 instead of $950 for a slower machine. Buy a VGA display with the $550 you save and hook the ibook to it for more screen space.

and just curious - why are those your only options? $1500 for a 15" rev. B is a pretty bad deal. The apple store has refurb. rev. E's for $1600.
 
it really depends on you....if you want to save money go for the 12" but if you dont have issues with money and you want a really good powerbook then go for the 15"...🙂

Yeah that's what I say, or wait a couple days for the first MacBooks!
 
If given the choice, i'd go for the powerbook personally. There's only a small difference in their processor speed. The extra screen real estate, better connection options, and better build quality would win it over big time for me.
 
$1500 for a Rev.B is a really, really bad deal. Think about battery cycle usage, physical wear, you won't be able to buy AppleCare for it...

Refurb PowerBook straight from Apple. If you check the page every day for about two weeks, you'll eventually find a much better deal.

Would have to agree here. $1500 is way too much for a rev. B, I sure hope we are not talking U.S. dollars here!
 
I was under the impression that the revision B 15" powerbook had a 1.33 ghz G4...in any case that is what the computer in question has. I think the pbook is the better machine, and yes it is a horrible deal...you can thank my father for that. He had purchased a 17" powerbook from ebay for 1600, it was nice until it froze up and wouldn't recognize some of the hardware, we returned it and now he decides to purchase the 15". I was trying to convince him to purchase a new ibook from the apple store, but it's kinda too late now...originally I was questioning the differences between the two, but am quite aware of them now. Now I'm looking at procedures for modding the pbook.

p.s. I don't care to hear about how we just got screwed on the price, I am well aware of this...Hell, I was just talking to someone who wanted to sell me a new 15" pbook for $1350

It has already been purchased for $1500 USD.
 
yeah, I'm sure the guy will love all that money(lol)
and yes, I'm sure the pbook will be fine as long as my dad doesn't make me give him any money...if he does, I'll tell him that since I wasn't included in the decision, my funds will not be included in the decision.
 
I just looked over the seller's recent purchases, and he just bought the computer, the only thing that has changed appears to be several scratches on the wristrest and he lists it with an 80gb HDD...he originally purchased it with a 60gb HDD. Hopefully, and this is doubtful, he has listed the HDD incorrectly...I will force my dad to return it if he made a mistake.
