Air Tunes

Just checking - air tunes can only be used with iTunes right? so it's can't be used as a sort of wireless speaker unless you're playing music?
 
basically yes but there are ways around that restriction:
- airfoil by rogue amoeba (easy app)
or
- vlc stream output (a bit more complicated)
