Would Apple Works 5 run on OS X? Would it have to run in classic enviorment?

I think when AppleWorks was at version 5 it was called ClarisWorks. And it wasn't Carbonized then so yup, it would have to run in Classic.

i don't think appleworks was carbonized until 6.2 but i know for sure that 5 will not run natively (although it should run in classic). i'm not sure how much apple is charging for appleworks (probably something around $70 to $80) but www.thinkfree.com offers thinkfree office for $50 and it runs in osx.

appleworks 5 will not work. And, fyi, 5 was called both clarisworks and appleworks, at different release times.

just upgrade to 6-- you'll like it. much nicer spash screen 🙂 and some detail fixes in preferences that i'd been waiting for... current version is 6.2.4, if i'm not mistaken.

Yes. Appleworks 7 should have grammar check (finally) and improved clip art.

When 5 was released it was called ClarisWorks 5 then apple bought it, incorperated it and made it AppleWorks 5. It is now version 6.2.4.

For your information, Clarisworks is not Y2K compliant. Be glad you aren't typing your documents with Clarisworks 6.2.4 and today's date being February 1903. 😛

what? certainly works fine for me... it relies on the date function of the OS, which exports it in a 4 digit format, as the Mac OS has always done... or do you mean the original clarisworks, having not been updated in years isn't Y2k... still weird, but i can't prove you wrong 🙂

i would kill for incorporated grammar checker, i used to have a program specifically for it. was great on school projects. 'Course, i had to break into a teacher's private computer to get it, it was bundled with some educational software (and they didn't want us using it)... it was their fault for making the appleshare passwords so damn easy...

I know someone, who had problems with Clarisworks and his older model Mac, and decided that the source came from something not working very well with the new year. He decided it was Clarisworks. Since Appleworks, there have been no such issues. So really I'm going based on assumptions.
