My iPod is not recognized by my iMac?

I woke up this morning and plugged in my iPod and I found that it will not mount on my computer or by recognized in iTunes! When I plug it in it just blinks the do not remove icon again and again but never does anything else. What do I do? Any help would be appreciated!!!

do you have any other firewire devices? you could try rebooting with the ipod plugged in, that's what i do whenever a device won't mount... i'm thinking if there's a problem it's with the mac and not the ipod, since the ipod recognizes the mac...

Restart

Do a restart, thats what I did one time and it worked. If not I hope you have applecare on the iMac.

I rebuilt the hard drive in Disk Warrior and reformatted it and it works fine again, thanks alot for the help guys!!!
