Obviously the software has some issues... it's still nowhere near as good as a person would be at facial recognition.

It does remind me of a semi-throwaway comment that William Gibson made in Virtual Light, though... a police program called "Separated at Birth" that was used to help identify missing people. You'd plug in an image and it would tell you who the picture looked like. (The hero, Berry Rydell, was told that he looked like a "young Tommy Lee Jones".) Humans are naturally good at recognizing celebrities.
